The Queen of Hearts from the Caelestes collection, professionally framed using museum-quality archival materials. This is Cancer’s card, featuring an illustration of a celestial hand wielding a scythe, harvesting hay as summer fuel for livestock.
In the Caelestes deck, each of the court cards correspond to an astrological sign, which is determined by the card’s value for modality (fixed, cardinal, mutable) and the card’s suit for its element (water, earth, fire, air). Queens are cardinal modality, occurring in the beginning of their seasons. Hearts correspond to the tarot suit cups, which in turn represents the element of water.
Thus, the Queen of Hearts is our Cancer card - the water sign occurring early-summer. The illustrations on each court card take inspiration from documented Medieval labors of their respective seasons, creating a calendar.
