This 6x8" giclée print features the Jack of Hearts playing card from Caelestes, a deck inspired by medieval interpretations of time and space.
The Jack of Hearts is Scorpio’s card, featuring an illustration of a celestial hand sprinkling seed to prepare for winter.
In the Caelestes deck, each of the court cards correspond to an astrological sign, which is determined by the card’s value for modality (fixed, cardinal, mutable) and the card’s suit for its element (water, earth, fire, air). Jacks are fixed modality, occurring in the middle of their seasons. Hearts correspond to the tarot suit cups, which in turn represents the element of water.
Thus, the Jack of Hearts is our Scorpio card - the water sign occurring mid-fall. The illustrations on each court card take inspiration from documented Medieval labors of their respective seasons, creating a calendar.
