This 6x8" giclée print features the Queen of Spades playing card from Caelestes, a deck inspired by medieval interpretations of time and space.
The Queen of Spades is Libra’s card, featuring an illustration of a celestial hand pouring wine for fall’s celebrations and rituals.
In the Caelestes deck, each of the court cards correspond to an astrological sign, which is determined by the card’s value for modality (fixed, cardinal, mutable) and the card’s suit for its element (water, earth, fire, air). Queens are cardinal modality, occurring in the beginning of their seasons. Spades correspond to the tarot suit swords, which in turn represents the element of air.
Thus, the Queen of Spades is our Libra card - the air sign occurring early-fall. The illustrations on each court card take inspiration from documented Medieval labors of their respective seasons, creating a calendar.
